child screening programme
Development & behaviour
Every child is different. They develop physically, mentally and emotionally at their own rate. Although there are milestones of child development, these are only guides.
Read more about children's behaviour on the NHS website.
UK NSC screening recommendation
Screening for developmental and behavioural problems is not currently recommended. This is because:
- there is not a suitable screening test
- there is not enough evidence that screening would be beneficial to children
- it is difficult to tell which children would benefit from treatment and whether this treatment would be successful
